New York Fashion Week Day Six

Badgley Mishka’s spring runway looks featured soft form with bold colors. Among the color palette, is a re-occurrence of green and pink hues ranging from delicate to vivid. The collection has several relaxed pieces including loose fit tops and ruffled skirts. Nude will return again this spring as a popular shade; Badgley Mischka has several looks that include nude with bold accents.

Herve Leger, famous for bandage dresses, showed an interesting twist in the Spring 2012 ready-to-wear show this week in New York- slim fit dresses with a flared bottom.  The French couturier also showed pieces of gold lamé with incorporations of metal to give the collection a hardened warrior look. Tribal print made the collecting in several pieces. Tribal print has quickly been gaining notice in the fashion world being featured by both prominent designers and commercialized brands alike. One of the most interesting pieces was Herve Leger’s final look, a white dress with a bandage top, fringe and a long loose skirt.

Vera Wang’s Spring 2012 ready-to-wear collection stayed true to her classically tailored style. Her dresses have a romantic airiness to them this year with loose skirts and translucent fabric. There is also an incorporation of bright lemon-lime accents and swirled fabric in many pieces. One of the more remarkable pieces was a charcoal gray dress with a sheer skirt and detailed bodice.

If it is possible to combine mod and bohemian, Oscar de la Renta achieved it in Spring 2012’s ready-to-wear collection. With a mix of geometrical stripes and squares paired with lace, fringe and flowing fabric, the looks touched upon both famous styles.  A popular color this spring appears to be lime green. Like Badgley Mischka and Vera Wang, Oscar de la Renta uses lime green throughout the collection for accent pieces and full looks. Several show-stopping full ballroom skirts were featured in the collection adding a flair of drama and sensation.

The models for the Narciso Rodriguez Spring 2012 ready-to-wear collection this year sported pop-art hair with a mix of slicked back orange, blue and lime green tresses. His pieces incorporated geometrical and a-symmetrical form. Bright hues of orange and blue accented many of the looks. Like Vera Wang, Narciso Rodriguez employed translucent fabric to give pieces an ethereal, aesthetic style.

Tibi channeled simplicity and clean lines in the Spring 2012 ready-to-wear line. Only a couple of pieces had fabric with a pattern and there were many solid pastels with occasional uses of bright green and shiny yellow. Many of the pieces were tailored loosely giving the illusion of lightness and also adding a resort-wear aspect. Several pieces used pastels such as sky-blue and light yellow. Overall, the collection exuded comfort and clarity.
