New York Fashion Week Day Seven

Safari style outfits highlighted the Michael Kors show, along with tribal inspired jewelry and animalistic prints. Most of the styles seen on the runway were very loose-fitting in greens, browns, camel-tones, grays, an occasional pop of orange and of course, various animal prints. Most of the models walked the runway in sandals, gladiator and wedges style, while the accessories included boho-style bags, large cross-body satchels and beaded tribal-like jewelry.

Nanette Lepore’s runway was filled with flirty, feminine dresses and skirts. The clothes were all brightly colored, from neon yellow, hot pink and orange to vibrant hints of blue. The outfits were typically form fitting on top with a looser skirt. The models all sported bright lips and shoes to match the Ready-To-Wear Collection’s bold look.

Dresses with thigh-high slits dominated the J. Mendel runway, while the star of the show was the vertical stripes that put a twist on the sophisticated dresses. The dresses were given a modern feel with different colored or patterned vertical stripes, along with an accompanying, and quite revealing, slit.

Inspired by tailored menswear, the 3.1 Phillip Lim runway show featured over sized blazers and vests and loose trousers that tapered in at the ankle. The Ready To Wear collection featured white, black, tan, and gray clothing with pops of purple, pink and orange. The tapering of the pants added a feminine touch to the masculine collection, along with the eye-catching yellow handbags.

Anna Sui’s show was filled with very unique outfits but they all had two things in common: prints and hats! The show started with bright prints, mixing and matching with adorable accessories including matching socks. The middle of the show featured lighter airy prints with some metallic mixed into the accessories. The show ended with a darker note of sexy black and navy prints with some revealing sheer fabrics. The accessories stole the show, perfectly complimenting each custom outfit.

The seemingly menswear inspired blazers and baggy pants were mixed with eloquent dresses and skirts creating a new look for the spring 2012 collection from Elie Tahari. The masculine pieces were given deep necklines to give them a more feminine and springtime feel, while the dresses shined in tan and orange, airy blue, and black. Metallic belts and necklaces pulled the entire Ready To Wear collection together.
