New York Fashion Week Day Five - Part Two

Betsey Johnson’s Spring 2012 Runway show stayed true to the designer’s over the top sexy and dramatic atheistic. The looks featured everything from corseted tops and rocker studs to sheer lace dresses and feminine ruffles. Color and patterns always play a huge role in Betsey’s designs and her spring collection was no exception. The playfulness of the clothing was complimented by the models who interacted with one another, struck playful poses, and even winked at the audience. Betsey herself also contributed by dancing down the runway and even doing a cartwheel for the audience!

The men on the Perry Ellis runway rocked a chic look comprised of slouchy pants, oversized blazers, “grandpa sweaters” and pops of burnt orange, bright yellow and teal in the otherwise neutral color pallet. Stripes and plaid were also used effectively to create the overall youthful charm presented on the runway. The looks read effortless and comfortable, while managing to still be extremely stylish. Men will love the Spring 2011 collection because it allows them to be in comfortable, airy fabrics without losing the structure men’s clothing is known for.

Marc by Marc Jacobs showed looks with bold colors mixed with neutrals and structured pieces with feminine details. Vibrant red, hot pink, and lime green were the core colors of the show, most often paired with navy or white pieces to complete the perfect spring ensemble. A majority of the women’s looks featured small ruffles on, or right above the hipbone. This detail made the waist look smaller and added a touch of femininity to the masculine structured clothing. One of the most interesting pieces in the collection was the cube-shaped bags, showcased in a variety of colors.
