According to Womens’ Wear Daily, Louis Vuitton has announced plans of unveiling a Marc Jacobs exhibit at Milan Fashion Week. This exhibit, set to display at the Treinnale, will showcase Jacobs’ 14 years of grandeur as the artistic director of Louis Vuitton. According to WWD, British stylist and journalist Katie Grand will curate the showcase.
This recent announcement merely adds to the bewildering puzzle that has struck the fashion world: Will Marc Jacobs leave Louis Vuitton for the couturier position at Dior? John Galliano was ousted last March after making anti-Semitic remarks to passerby in Paris. Meetings from LVMH (the conglomerate that owns the Dior label and Louis Vuitton) and Marc Jacobs are set to take place this week in Paris.
“One source cautioned that a deal with Jacobs is not assured, but that the American designer and Dior management are so far 'excited' about the prospect.” WWD states.
Through his years as the artistic director, Marc Jacobs has essentially revolutionized certain aspects of the line. His collaborations range from artists like Stephen Sprouse, Kanye West and Richard Prince to contemporaries like Takashi Murakami. The exhibit is set to embody these collaborations, along with the best of Jacobs’ 70 ready-to-wear collections with Louis Vuitton.
In addition to the exhibit, Louis Vuitton plans to unveil their newly renovated store on Via Montenapoleone. Designed by architect Peter Marino, the new space includes a “travel room” that will house Louis Vuitton’s trademark monogram suitcases and travel-wear. The French fashion house is sure to stir up a frenzy in Milan next month.
Many speculate this tribute to be a “farewell” from Louis Vuitton as Jacobs ushers in the new venture of head couturier at Dior. The exhibit will run from September 22 to October 9.
