Harvard Business School grads Jennifer Hyman and Jennifer Fleiss teamed up to create a site dedicated to women who want to “experiment with new brands without the anxiety of investing in piece after piece,” according to RentTheRunway.com’s about section.
“A new dress for every occasion” is what Hyman had in mind.
Today the site has dresses and accessories at 90% off retail price from over 95 designers, from Anna Sui to Zac Posen. The ease of renting and returning garments is what has made the site a success. More so, the chance to wear an authentic designer piece without buyer’s remorse has renters hooked.
“Rent the Runway has opened me up to a designer I was unfamiliar with and I am now obsessed with Rebecca Taylor designs,” renter Alexandra from Austin, Texas said on the site’s testimonials.
Now the site is expanding, reaching out to colleges across the nation to join the Rent The Runway family by representing your college or university on RTRonCampus.com. The campus initiative is looking to hire College Runway Reps who are “entrepreneurial, heavily involved on campus, creative, and driven.”
