Getting Antsy

Every collection that goes down a runway has a source of inspiration. Be it may a building or a song, the sources are limitless. But for many designers, their inspiration comes from the wild and everything in it. From tropical jungles and patterned zebras to the simplest of animals: ants! Yes my favorite inspiration I have seen so far and tried to follow was that of beyond little, barely there insects. But what most do not see is the intricate structure of ants and the coloring that differs between the types. Bora Aksu, a London-based Turkish designer used his brilliant brain to create an alluring collection featured all around the interesting insect, dissecting the ant piece by piece, creating a feminine yet dramatic line.

Each of these looks exemplify the image of ants through tattooed tights, or structured draping or even just the patterns on the fabrics. Bora Aksu continued the look from the models' heads to their toes, as their hair was styled in a bun on top of their head like ants' big eyes and the shoes were crisscrossed across the top like the fishnet skin ants have. But no worries, he added many delicate touches like ruffles that truly complete the collection.

I am not saying I go as far as wearing ants as jewelry (gross!) but I am going to try and incorporate it in my wardrobe from now on. I can wear shades of grey and black, and fishnets and high buns, maybe even purchase a pair of the fabulous tights seen above. Either way I think that the addition of animals into fashion is not only genius but necessary. The raw nature that animals evoke helps us humans show our true selves, plus they seem to be naturally fashionable! So if you are looking for a fun, unusual animal for inspiration, try an ant, you will definitely be noticed!
