New York Fashion Week always sparks interest in trends for the upcoming seasons and different designers set the tone for what will be in style, and eventually haute couture fashion trickles down to influence everyday brands.
A trend that has been circulating lately that has also been prevalent in designers such as Betsey Johnson and Nina Ricci’s Spring 2012 collection, are lingerie inspired looks. Lace, cutouts, bustiers, bra tops and anything else ultra feminine are making their way onto the runway and can be seen in the fit and design of many items in stores. The new Kardashian Kollection at Sears features many slinky dresses and tops that are inspired by the sexy and mysterious essence of lingerie.

Since many of the items influenced by this trend can be quite revealing, it’s important to take into consideration the appropriateness of when and where it’s okay to sport a full on bustier versus a more subdued lace back tee. It’s always fun to try out new looks, but the key is to effortlessly mix in a great new piece with other, more timeless items to have a coherent, fashionable look.
ASU student Julianne Deflippis said, "It really depends on how much skin you show."
Many would argue that French designer Jours Après Lunes probably should have thought about appropriateness when the children's collection of “loungerie”, a cross between loungewear and lingerie, advertised young girls in lingerie-esque pieces. The collection sparked controversy over whether the line was actually too risque or if the public was fussing over some kids in pajamas.
Either way, ladies, consider these words from another ASU student, Malcolm Brinkley who said that although not every girl is showing too much or revealing herself, even a little lace can “get a guy thinking."
