Royal Wedding Fever

In April, millions of Americans tuned in to watch the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton. The event was no doubt fashionable, with the bride wearing a custom made Alexander McQueen wedding gown and the bridesmaids in white dresses as well.
Americans everywhere quickly caught the “royal wedding fever”. The trends seen during the wedding continue to be seen in American weddings today.

Kate Middleton’s wedding dress was quite different from the ball gown dresses commonly seen in weddings today.
“Alexander McQueen’s designs are all about bringing contrasts together to create startling and beautiful clothes,” said Sarah Burton, designer of Middleton’s wedding dress, in an interview with Press Association. “I hope that by marrying traditional fabrics and lacework, with a modern structure and design, we have created a beautiful dress for Catherine on her wedding day”.
Her dress was modest with lace sleeves yet still form fitting and elegant. Similar gowns have been made available in wedding dress boutiques across the nation and suddenly wedding gowns with a traditional look to them are popular.

One of the most notable trends of the royal wedding was the white bridesmaid dresses that are traditional in British weddings. Reality starlet, Kim Kardashian, incorporated this favored trend into her black and white wedding affair, making headlines across the nation.
“Though not common as it once was, putting bridesmaids in white isn’t unheard of. Princess Di did it and Princess Elizabeth did, too,” said Kim Fusaro, on Glamour.com’s blog, “Of course no one’s forgotten Pippa Middleton’s royal bridesmaid dress just yet, and Kate Moss’s bridesmaids all wore white too”.

Vera Wang for David's Bridal
On the runway, high fashion wedding dresses, like Vera Wang’s, show significant influence of the royal wedding in the Fall 2011 shows. The royal wedding made history across the globe but in America, the event brought trends here to stay this wedding season.
